A LESSON FROM LONDON.
The following verse by "Sinbad" in the Auckland Star rather neatly summarises the impression that many believe Mr Savage is creating in lyndon; — There 's a hush in Haymarket, a stir in the Stn&nd, And Downing Street waits with its hat in its hand, While Eden is anxiouS and Baldwin is blue. For Mickey is telling them what they must do. "The only salvation for Britain,'' he cries, "Is down on New Zealand to focus your eyes; For there in that country a challenge'we've hurled At all of the folk who work woe with the world. We're putting up wages with gusto and glee, While keeping down pricea by law and decree. We're cutting down hours till the day is so small That it's hardly worth going to business at all. We spend all the while with a generous hand, For many's the wonderful work we have planned; And we hope (though we've not reached that item as yet) To make a big cut in the national debt. Though critics may scoff and though bankers may smile, You could not do better than copy my style. The call of the Empire, I think youl will see, Is for plenty of practical statesjnen like me."
