Eight Men Before Court at Auckland (By T elprrvn > AUCKLAND, Last Night^ Charged with playing two*up and crown and anchor on the central wnarf on May 4, eight men, some of whom were described by the polico u professional gamblers, appeared before M* Orr Walker, 8.M., in the Police Courf. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that for some time past there had been numerous complaints about gambling oii the wharves. The nsual games were crown and anchor and two-up. "Two or three men among this lot are professional gamblers and are practically making a living from ii;," said Detective-Sergeant McHugh. ' 'Between 8 and 10 o'clock in the morning these men were an annoyance to men who were there to obtain work. They are not connected with the Waterside Workers' Union."
