Te Aute College Form Improves TAKAPAU UNBEATBN

(By

fn the Central Hawke's Bay senior competition, after four Saturdays' play, cnly Takapau remain unbeaten. During the next month Old Boys, Te Aute, and Waipukurau will provide soHd opposition for the Takapau stalwarts, who have not lost & zaateh since 1935. " Last week's senior games in Central Hawke'is Bay resulted as follow: — Otane 11 beat Old Boys 0, Te Aute 16 beat Ongaonga 3, Waipukurau 11 beat Porangahau 3, Omakere 14 beat Tiko. kino 0. At Central Park, Waipukurau, the home team gaver a most efficient display against Porangahau. Individually the Coast players are good, but in_ posxtional play and combination Waipukurau were definitely superior. - Playing behind forwards who pack quickly and know when to break from the scrum, their backs combined in some very pretty passing movements. Both the full-backs in this match were very good. In the Te Aute-Ongaonga fixture the veteran Ongaonga forward Easmussen played an outstanding game. About three years ago a knee injury fovced Basmusisen to exchange hf,s player 's jerBey for a referee's whistle, but last Saturday he gave the Te Aute boys a lesson in hard but clean forward play. Te Aute Improvement. As there has been a welcome revival of Eugby interest this winter in the Ongaonga district, the club has quite a number, of spare players. In a miVihimproved Te Aute team Northcroft, Kainamu and Tamahori were the stars; when the Maoris meet Old Boys nest Saturday it will be possible to assess their strength as a team. In Murr'ay and Northcroft Te Aute have two of the best three-quarters in Central Hawke's Bay. Plattering to Otane. In the Otane-Old Boys' match the winners' margin of eleven points was rather flattering to the village team, On the day Otane deserved to win by about six points; once' more it was their forwards who won the game. Hesitation at critical moments lost several chances for the Old Boys' left wing. The Juniors. Among the eight junior teams in this district, the leaders are Waipukurau, Takapau A, and Old Boys. The Wai*, pukurau juniors, while not nnduly heavy, afe n^Ore experienced than their rivals, and should be able to win this grade. Takapau A, winners for the past two seasons, have lost one match and drawn another. j 1 l
