H.B. REGIMENT HOSTS AT MILITARY BALL

One oi the most popular ballS of the season, and thiS year one of the Cofqiiation festivities, ds the afifiual miiitary ball of' the Hhwke's BUy Regiirient, which was teld IdSt evenirig iii tlie Dfill Hall, Napier. Arranged on tEe keynoto of fCd, white and bltie Colouring, the decoraiiehs wero at oxlce simple and artistic, representing a considefdble amount of work by the committee. The walls were covered in purple paper, relieved at intervals With festoonS of red, White and blue ribbons and ffinged by a printed band bearing rCpre^entations of the Coronation procession. At tile head of the hall a large cOat-of-arnis surmountCd by the" words "Gdd SaVe Ihe King ' ' oecupied a central po§ition aboVe the o'rehestra stand, whieh was al§o aftistieally decordtCd with palms and shrubs. From the ceiling, dependent from a number of strings. were thousands of

paper ribbonS, light blue ifi colour, creating the illusion of a summer sky. In tlie centre, also arranged with haiiging streamers of paper, was a large replica of the tTflioli dfick perfec'tiy pro'portidned. Lightiag efifoets ffom above the ceih ing decorations shed a soft light on the whole scene and placed the finishing^touches on a work of art. Undoubtedly the success of the evening was largely due to the untiring efforts of the following energetic committee: — Major Goss, N.Z.S.C., Lieut. McKay, Q.M.S. Beale, Pte. Mendelgsohn, Fts. Robertson, .and Pte. Ballaniyne. Corporal E. J. Bourgeois again pfoved himSelf a 1 very capafile sedr'cfary. The chairman of the ball committee was Captain j. Peel. Lieut-Colonel A. J. M. Manson, M.C"., E.TX, and Mrs. Manson were host and hoStess for- the evening. The foiiowing ladies ably assisted the committee: — Mrs. H. Scott, Misses M. J§ifie§s M.- Bcasioy,- B.- and M. Bfyan and P. Walker. A pOpuiar pfogramme of dance music was played by Gordon Eedward?s' ofchestra.
