Rugby Match with Wairarapa ? . y VICTORY BY 42—13

(By Telegrftph

MASTERTON, Last Night. ' A hoilday crowd of -about 3000 at 'Memoriai Park watched the k youthful Wairarapa representative Rugby team overwheltned by the weighty and experienced Hawke's Bay flfteen to the tune of 42 to 13. While the visitors iheld a safe winning margin practioally throughout the iandslide did not come untii the closihg stages of the second spell and for all the disparity between the flnal scores it was a bright and at times exciting encounter apart from the last teii minutes when Bay put on points almost as fast as Bradman's flashing blade can score run&. Wairarapa played sound enough football. In fact at times they threatened to sweep over the Bay line by Sheer de* termination, but their headlong rushes were met by grim defenco and in moments oi crisis Hawke's Bay'strttck back with level-headed precision. The Bay meq had that resilience which only uncommon skiil and speed and instinct can produce and it was enough to turn the turbulent Wairarapa tofrent. To touch ligktly on that "black last ten minutes'] when Bay earried their score from 25-— 13 to 42—13 it ia sufdcient to say that Wairarapa, "done to if turn," aimply went out of business and the visitors scored almost at will. tt was a fairly even break in the openIng spell but' weakness in the defence at criticai times on the part of th,e home team eu&bied Bay to hoid a 16—8 lead at the interval. Robins, Apsey, Whyts and Hansen scored tries for the visitors, Dyor converting two. Holland and Lalng scored tries for Wairarapa, Brunton converting one. The nearest Wairarapa got to Bay in the second session was 25—13, but from theu on the visitors put on tho pressuro aad Wairarapa more or less .eol* lap§ed? Additional tries wero ecered for Bay by Whyte and 0 'B.rien (2), Apsey, Robins, Sanson, Jackson and Bowman, Robins converting oue. Bruntoii scored a flne try for Wairarapa which he also convcrted.
