Two Bright Matches Played

WAIROA, This Day. There was a record attendance of spectators at the Lambton sports graund on Coronation Day to witness the senior game, Pakehas v Maoris, and the junior game, Eastern v. Westerh." In the opinion of many present the play in the senior match was better than the majority of the representative giames. The selectors shouid have no difficulty in picking the representative team from the 30 players to defend the Barry Cup on July 31. SENIOR MATCH. Pakehas 9 beat Maoris 6. — The game was fast right from the kick-off and the play was very even and clean. Although the Pakeha forwards were lighter than the Maoris they more than held their own. Tries were scored by Powdrell and Russell. H. Mataira was the best forward and W. Powdrell the best back on the field. Mr B. Parkinson controlled the game. JUNIORS. Eastern 12 beat Western 11. — In this game Western did not field the team selected, and four of the players being unable to play. In spite of this the game was very even, and in the early part of the game Western established a lead of eight points to nil. In the latter part Eastern had the better of the* play and won the match by 12 points to 11, thus securing the cup for tbe season. Mr CX Mackay was the referee.
