H.B. JOCKEY CLUB Large Improvement on the Totalisatqr NO SERIOUS MISHAP .The Qutstanding success of the Hawke's Bay Jookey Cluh's golden . juhilee and Coronation meeting was p^rricul^rly Ploasfng; to follpwers of thq tfurf. The attraction was most populer, yesterday'^ attendance heing th© largest siuce Saturday, May 9, 1925, when the two well-known performers Gloaming and The Haryk staged their qiemorahle cpptest fqr the Onnopd Memqrial Qpld Cup. Th© race yras won hy Gloaming aud marked th© end of his racing career. The eommittee and the reeponsible pfficiqls are deserving qf the highes't commendation for the splendad manner fn which the arrangements wpre carried out yesferday. The alteration in the starting times w&S a big improvement. An excellent feature which was appreciated by the public, was the club strictly adhering to its decision to closP the totalisutor promptly on timq. This had the effeet of investors losing no time onee the maehine opened. The increase of £6283 10/- in the inyestment yesterday, making a total increase of £10,472 10/-, was remarkable. This was contributed to Iqrgely by the appearance of several well-known outside horses wbose owners were attracted by the ijnprpved »t©kes decided upon by the club. The betting for th© la©t rac© yesterday was the best for th© meeting when §2750 was invested, against £2669 for the Jubilee Cup event on Saturday. This was the largest sum invested on any single raee for many yqars past. The most heavily backed horse wa® Peter Beckford, owned by Mr G. D. Beatson, president of the club, who carried over £1030 of the publao money, returping them a ve?7 short-priced dividend after staging a fine win. The balancing of th© totalisator was carried out with much-improved despatch yesterday, and delays after the maehine had closed, which have been cqnsiderable at times, w©re entirely eliminated. The meeting fortunataly passed ofi without any very serious mishap. In the running of the Twyford Handicap three horses went down in the bunch. Two of the riders, N. Caveney and H. Callahan, were admitted to hospital, bnt it is expected that they will both bg well enough to be discharged to-day. An inquiry into the incident was adjourned owing to the riders concerned not being available. The only other mishap* was in the hurdle event when P. Bae, rider of Taumau, was thrown. He received a slight injury and after a rest was about again. Credit is due to the fine manner in wliich Mr A. E. Wishart, the newlyappodnted secertary, carried out hia duties. Th® whole organisation was eomplete in every detail, for which the eommittee is deserving pf the appreciation of owners, trainers and the racing public.
