IDDO'S HURDLES Large Attendance At Hastings Races BUSTER BROWN WINS The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club continued its autumn meeting to-day at Hastings in fine but dull weather. Com siderable interest was taken in the meeting as a Coronation fixture, and. it was very largely attended. Rain overnigfit gi'eatly improved the course, which was in excellent racing order. Tfie first race was started promptly at noon, and the following events wore run according to the seheduled starting times. Very satisfactory fields competed, and some most interesting racing was provided. The handieapping was again carried out by Mr. H. Coyle, who brought tho fields well together to stage some most exciting finishes. Mr. A. V. CBrien, of Wellington, was in the jndge's ^box» and his decisions gave every satisfaotion. _ During the running of the Hurdlea. Taumau fell at the second fence, throwing his rider, P. Rae, who received an abrasion to his arm and concussion; but his condition was not serious. The principal event of the day, the Coronation Cup, attracted a big field which included severn^ well-known horses from outside districts. The six runners got away together for Iddo to take the first |ence m front of Taumau, Contact, Unexpected, Royal Bengal and Lord Hereford ; but at the next hurdle Contact had jumped himself to the lead to take over command from Iddo, Taumau, Unexpected, Royal Bengal and Lord Hereford. By the time the winning-post was reached the first time Taumau had run up iuto second pluco and actually led out of the straight from Contact, Iddo, Unexpected and Royal Bengal, with Lord Hereford still in the rear, but at the seven-furlong fence Taumau fell to leave Contact ahead by eix lengths. Running into the back stretch, Iddo was in second position just ahead of Unexpected, Royal Bengal and Lord Hereford. There was no alteration in this order over the next three furlongis, although Unexpected and Royal Bengal had begun to drift. Coming to the sec-ond-to-last fence, Contact still was in front from Iddo, with Lord Hereford beginning to make his run. Contact and Iddo were practically on even terms at the last fence, but the former jumped his way to the front again and looked like coming home first. A furiong from home he shied badly at the crowd leaning over the fence and lost his advantage as well as sligjhtly interfering with Iddo. In a good finish Iddo lasted just long enough to beat the fast-fiuishing Lord Hereford by a short head, while Contact was half a length away tliird1, with Unexpected a poor fourth.
