CHAIN STORES COMBINE
Woolworths and G. J, Coles, Ltd. (Received 12, 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, May 11 The Sydney Sun's Melbourne correspondent says negotiations are proceeding between G. J. Coles and Woolworths to combine the two companieg. The chain store business of the two organisations in Australja and New Zealand are worth in the aggregate about £3,000,000. Probably a holding company will be formed to acquire the two existing concerns, but no details have yet been worked out. The directors of Woolworths, Ltd., Sydney, issued a statement that the directors of the two organisations felt considerable concern recently owing to tlie rising cost of commodities and held a series of conferences with a view to arfiving at some common basis for tho control of future expansion.
