Hanley, of Hastings, "butcher, who did not appear, was fined £5, with 14/- costs, and Ms Hceilce was cancclled for one month, on a charge of negligent driving in Napier, when the case was heard before Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Napier Magistrate's Courfc yesterday, Defendant drove his car into Dlckens street from Dalton street and struek a bus, said Senior-Sergeant W. Pend6r. Ee drove on, but was intercepted by the driver of the bus, who notified tlie police. Evidence given by the bus driver xevealed that the car had been driven at a Mgh speod. Damage to the bus had cost about £10 to repair. in a statement to the police, defendant said that his view was obscured by other buses on the road. The Bench commented that it was difficult to account for the defendant 's atteinpt to get away. The case seemed a bad one. As a result of an aceident an which his .-car struek the back of a horsedrawa vehiele on the Napier-Hastings road, Bruce Irven Ede, of Waipawa, was fined £1 10/-, with £1 1/- costs, for negligent driving. Henry 0, Toogood, of Havelock Hortb, sheepfarmer, was iined £1 10/-, with 10/- costs, for failing to keep to | h« left of the road on Glengarry Hill. . HMxij Brown, of Bay ViW;, farnt-

hand, was fined 10/-, with 15/- costs,for riding an unlighted bicycle. Several operators of heavy traffic vehieles north of ' Napier were fined for overloading on elassified xoads. The information was laid by Traffic-In-speetor J. H. It. Semple. The Beneh issued a waraing that similar offences dn the future, espeelally in the winter, when damage to the roads would be greater, would be met with heavier fines. George Gardiner and Sons, Ltd., were fined £1 10/-, with 10/- costs; M. B. Svenson, Ltd., £1 10/-, with 10/- costs; and S. Woodward £1 10/-, with 13/- costs. For exceeding the load for which their vehiele was licensed, M. B. Svenson, Ltd., werefined £3, with 10/- costs.
