ATTRACTIVE COLOURS AND NEW FASHIONS AT HASTINGS RACES

Many of the charming fashions in frocks, suits and hats which are among the new styles for this winter were to be seen at the Hawke's Bay Jockey Olub's Golden Jubilee race meeting in Hastings on Saturday afternoon. The gathering was one of th© best attended? for some tiine, and a pleasantly fine and warm day attracted a large number of women patrons, many making the most of an opportunity toair their new winter suits. Fashions this year are so charming and so varied that it would be quite impossible to clioose any particular colour or style as being a favourite. An attractive new shade, however, petrel blue, was worn by several patrons, while colours inspired by the Coronation, mostly blue in. various shades, often combined with red, were quite often seen. Tunic suits of all descriptions looked very smart, and of these the most popular style was a frock or skirt nnder a tbree-quarter flared coat buttoning right down the front. Long coats have chiefly astrakan trimming or collars, jabot or revers of short fur or Persian lamb in many colours. Seld'om before have hats been in such becoming styles and toques of fur, felt or velvet were finished with short eye-veils. At the conelusion of the cup race everyone assembled on the lawn to see th© gold cup presented. Mr George Fbbett, a vice-president of the club, in the absence of the president, Mr G. D.
