(Bj Telejfrapn.
v ■ WELLINGTON, Last Night. Two youths appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., to-day, charged with eommitting mischief by damaging a men's shelter, a tool box, 25 gallonp of fuel oil and container and an air compressor, to the total value of £3 17/6. It was related that they were members of a cycling party to Masterton on March 26. When they reached the Rimutakas it began to rain and they took sfielter in the shed where they lit a iire. The shelter had no chimney and they were smoked out. They shifted the fire outside and broke pieces off the tool box to keep it going. They rolled a drum of oil up to the fire and turned on the ,tap. The fire was soon raging and the drum exploded, an air compressor nearby being damaged. The youths left hurriedly, but were stopped at Upper Hutt. "There is no criminality in this case," said Mr. Luxford. "The whole thing is one of thoso unfortunate circuoistances which sometimes occur. The case is adjourned for a fortnight. You had better haVe a tarpaulin muster, and if tho damage is paid for, I propose to dismiss the case against both of you"
