Mr T* C. Lowry Says N.Z. Team Will Do Its Best LONDON LUNCHEON

The special representative of the United Fress Association states: The New Zealand ericketers to-day attendnd the first official function of the tour, a luncheott representative of all Sports given by the British Sportsman's (jlub. Lord Desborough, presided and among those present were the Hon. M. J. Savage, Mr W. J. Jordan, attd Dr A. G. Porritt and Mr J. E. Lovelock. The Eitig sent a rixessage heartily welcoming the team and wishing it a pleasaut and successful tour. Mr Leveson-Gower, proposing the toast of the team, said that inost pleasaiit memories wero treasured of the two preVious sides. With such a traditioii, the present teain was going to play Sttractive qricket. Mr Ti Oi Lowry, responding, said that the team was primarily touring to p.ay crxcket but realised that it was also on a goodwill ruission. He Warned observers not to expect too mticho from a cOmbmatiOn t>f amateur clttb ericketers. Mr Lowfy pointed out that newspapers throiighout the world were devoting a lot of space to urging brighter batting. "They are setting as a standard Bfadman and Hammond at their best, and are teaching the public to expect play of their high class, whieh the coming ericketers cannot possibly reach. it is too much to ask. We will try to play as brightly as we can, but we are not going to saorifice any game to atf&in this eAd." Mr Ton Webster, the noted cartoonist, decorated the menu with amtising sketehes as a souvenir for the players It was a memorable gathering.
