ANOTHER JUBILEE TO-MORROW.
Almost simuitaneously witk that of the Borougn of Hastings yet another jubilee falls for celebration, and one with wiiieh the ttfwn has a most * intimate association. To-morrow will be run on the Hastings eburse the fiftietli race for the Hawke's Bay Cup. This is an occasioni too, updn Which the citizens of Hastings may well take thought of all that the estabiishment of their town as the chief racing centre oi the provincial district may have meant to them. They may theu realise to what a very appreciable extent the prosperity of the fown has come from its close conneetion with the breedmg, the training and the racing of the thoroughbred horse. Taking the half-century since the first Hawke's Bay Cup was run, the'money spent in the town in this relation will probably run into miliions. This says nothing, too, bf the money spent by the many thousan'ds of visitors from far and near who during that period have flocked to our race meetings and have given advertisement not only to the toWU itself, but also to the Sa^Tding C0Untry diSt*ictS from wMeh its Prosperity is so largely It ig faifly safe to say that the advertisement thus afforded hua duriflg that fifty years attracted thousands to the population of the town and its vicinity, among them not a few who have contributed largely to the development of the district 's natUfal resources and thus, again, played a part in promoting the town's progtess. These are factors which the trades-folk of Hastings in particular should bear in mind and recognise the debt they owe to those who have kept the sport going here thfough a fairly long spell of adverse conditidns. During the last few years it has been iuclined to languish, indeed has been on the point almost of being abandoned. With the return of better times, however, the prospects are now very much brighter and, given the ' support Which those eonducting it are quite entitled to expect, a thorough revival may be looked for. in fact, there is ' every fair prospect that, given a good fresh start-off at the meeting to be held to-morrow and next Wednesday,. the Hawke's Bay Eaeing Club, seated in the town, will be set well on the way to regain its old-tiae pfestige. This wiil mean. much to the townsfolk and it is for them, in their owa interests and in the interests of clean Sport, to lend all assistance !n their power to achieving guch a result.
