The Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital erected as a memorial to the men from this district who gave their lives in the Great War of 1914-18. With a Government subsidy of 89000 the sum of £27,000 was raised by public subscription to build this hospital. The magnificent bequest of £32,000 was left for the purpose of maintenance and improvement of the hospital by Miss Henrietta L. Kelly, who was killed in the earthquake of 1931
