FIRE BRIGADESMEN HONOURED
Presentations Made To Retiring Officers SERVICE FOR COMMUNITY A special complimentary social evening was held at the. Hastings Fire Brigade Station last evening when three prominent membeTs of the brigade were honoured. Superintendent R. Henderson presided, and among those present were Mr. G. A. Maddison, Mayor aud chairman of the Fire Board, and a number of former members of the brigade. The principal business of the evening was the presentation made to DeputySuperintendent H. Price, in recognition of his fine service as secretary of the brigade over the past 21 years, Mr. Price having now retired from that office; and also presentations to Poreman W. Draper and Piremen T. Keith, who have resigned from the brigade . after 25 years' and 31 years' service respectively. ' When presenting to Mr. Price a handsome chiming clock as a token of the appreciation of the brigade for bis long service as secretary, "Mr. Maddison eulogised the wonderful work that was being done by the Hastings Pire Brigade and of the great saving that was effected at so small a cost by the officiency, enthusiasm and loyalty of tlio brigade. Mr. Price had been one wno had given long and faithful service in this direction, and though he was rcsigning this particular office, it was pleasing to note that he would contimio as a member of the brigade. Messrs. Draper and Keith were each presented with a crystal salad service. and Mr. Maddison congratulated botli | on their fine achievements and long service. Keferring to Mr. Keith, in particular, he said that the Keith family was among the founders of the Hastings brigade. The opportunity was also taken to present to a number of the brigade men their Service honours. This was also undertaken by Mr. Maddison, who voieed appreciation of the fine service that the men were giving the town, and also extolled their spirit of self-sacri* fice and civic pride. The awards wer.e as follow: — Gold bars: Deputy-Superintendent H. Price, 31 years' service j Foreman W. O'Neill, 29 years; Fireman K. Perguson, 29 years.. Silver bars: Driver A. Richmond, 25 years' service; Fireman F. Ellis, 15 years; Fireman S. Nesbitt, 15 years; Foreman R. Colwill, 10 years; Fireman F. Horton, 10 years; Fireman R. Price. seven years. Certificates and medal: Fireman R. O'Brien, five years' service. Qertificates: Fireman W. Lane, three years' service; Fireman W. Parsons, tbree years. .
