Aid for Ex-Servicemen

INGUIRER.

(To tlie Editor.) Sir, — Should we not honour fclie deacl by remembering the living? I think that Kiwi's Cobber is nght. I'm afraid a Uumber of returned men are getting a raw deal. While admiring the committee of the Hawke's Bay Relief As sociation for the splendid work they

are doing, I do think that a lot c-f cribicism of the adminietration of these funds is justified. What amazes me is that the association has seeu fit to issue a summons against (presumahly) •i returned eoldier. As a donor to the Hawke's Bay War Relief funds I think that the committee should make public the circumstances attached to this case. 1 was under ;the timpression that the funds were solely for Hawke's Bay ealisted men. How is it that others, not even New Zealanders, can obtain assistance from this association? This'is surely contrary to the rules. Perhaps the secretary will enlighten us. Thankllltr vou. — Yours. etc..

Hastings, May 1, 1937. .

Why not write d'irect to the oxecu-> tive of the association? It is impossible to allow the private financial affairs of ex-soldiers to be di&cussed in the columns -of a newspapen. The policy of the aseociation is to give as* sistance in the form of grants to any deservihg ex-serviceman, each case being considered on its merits. Loans are made only to Hawke's Bay men, and ihe assodiation's aimual report mentions with pride the manner dn whieh our returned soldiers have honoured their obligations. There may be •\xeoptions.— Editor.
