VALEDICTORY

Mr. George Thomson A farewell social was tendered by the master butchers of Napier, and their wives to Mr and Mrs George Thomson, of Awatoto, on the occasion of , Mr Thomson retiring from the position of manager and Gqvernment inspector of the Napier Municipal Abattoirs, which position he has occupied for the past 30 years. General regret- was expressed that Mr and Mrs Thomson would shortly be leavuig the district. During the evening Mr Thomson was presented with a well-filled wallet, subscribed to by the master butchers, and to show their appreciation of the servic© he had rendered to them during his long period of offiee". Mr J ; R. Martin, snr., of Taradale, in making the presentation on behalf of the master butchers, wished Mr and Mrs Th iiuson every happiness in their rctiremenc and hoped they would live iong t© cnjoy the remaining yfears of their life. Mr G. G- Stanford also spoke of the assistance and good advice that Mr Thomson was always willing to give. Not only did he study the master butchers, but he . had also to satisfy the Govemment and the Napier City Council. Mr Thomson's position would be hard to fill, owing to the way he had satisfied all concerned. Messrs Selby, Waitere, Cumings and Porter also spoke. Mr and Mrs Thomson suitably repliedj and the rest of the evening; was spent in relating old time experiences. After supper "Auld Lang Syne"' waB sung.
