. Technical O.B. Defeat Celtic A 1 7-P0INT MARGIN Mainly through the hustling tactics of the forwards, who smothered the opposing backs on every occasion, Technical O.B. gained a 17-point victory against Celtic, at McLean Park No. 2 ground, Napier. The game was not particularly inspiring, being one-sided, although both kete of forwards at times were responsible 4fot some hright movements. Technical 'g backs were definitely superior, but time after time good play was spoiled through poor passing and handling. The final score was 17 to nil. The teams were.as follqgf': — Technical O.B. — Rossiter, Herbert, Cnshing, Dallimore, Petersen, Kauter, Riddell, McAuslin, Campbell, Lopdell, Bowman, Brook»?s, R. Johnson, Murray. W. Johnson. Celtic. — Simon, Garvey, Pullen, Thompson, Gibbs, Halligan, Tomoana, Bnenett, Kelly, Hannigan, Rollinder, Maaka, Brown, J. Mataira, Bower. From the kick-off Technical established themselves as the superior team, and whe'n the half-time score read sixnif their their favoitr it was obvious that they had the game in hand. Riddell, a promoted jumor, played quite a good game as halPbaek and had many more opportunities than his vis-a-vis, Tomoana, who was eortsistently smotliered by Technical's forwards. None of Technical's tries was particularly spectacular, but all were well-de-served. The most satisfactory feature of the game was the poor attempt on the part of Technical to convert tries and to kick penalty goals, most of which were from easy positions. W. Johnson was definitely off form, converting only one of the five tries. Celtie's forwards played good football and had their backs had more opportunities, the game wouid doubtless have been more even The scorers were: — Technical O.B. Herbert (two tries), R. Johnson (two tries), Dallimore (a try), W. Johnson (a conversion), During the game Hannigan and Mataira (both Celtic) retired with injuries and were replaced by McCourt and Brown respectively. Mr VV. Forrest refereed.
