M.A.C. IN FORM

Hastings H.S.OB. Easily Beaten 30 POINTS TO 14 A wonderful exhfbitioh was provided by M.A.C. and Hastings H.S.O.B. in the main attraction at Hastings. Though the scoring was certainly very one-sidedly in fav our of the Maoris, the ex-students were ever ready to take full advantage of the few mistakes made by their opponents. It was the Maoris* day, actually, however, and they Were supreme, running up a tall score of 30 points againat Old Boys' 14. rhe.team® were as follow: — M.A.O- — S. Jackson; A. Walford, Le ' Bas, Meafou, Kurupo, T. Walford, Newton, . Collier, Mataira, E. Jackson, jEteid, Kingi, Thompsou, Greening. Crawford. Hastings H.S.Q.B. — McCarthy, Avery, Palmer, Apsey, Holt, Devine, Alexander, Shrimpton, Redward, Rankin, Ford, Fargher, Rawiri, Irwin and Ashman.

With the wind to their advantage M.A.C. early opened up the play and made good nse of their backs. A nice break by Kurupo pierced the defence, Orawford finishing over the movement with a, try that S. Jackson conyertedIt was then A- Walford' s turn to make some bright runa down the wing, and he scored a brilliant try after scattering the Old Boys right and left. Jackson again did the honours. Within a few minutes lawford put in one of his spectacular runa, followed up a kipkthrough and beat Palmer to ihe tonchdown. Jackson capped it with his third conversion. With 15 points agfaxnst them, Old Boys were hard put to stop the "rot," but rallying well, they succeeded for a time. They were working hard and play swung up and dgwn field at a great rate, but Old Boys did not reveal the finish that was so marked in the movements of the Maoris, whose backing up and handling were marvellous. The kicking of a penalty goal by McCarthy, as Oid Boys' first score, was the signal for the Maoris to resume their scoring and-Reid battled his way over for a •great try, there being) several of his eomrades handy with him. 8. Jackson once more converted. Old Boys had a final say in the spell, however, when Palmer gathering in a bouncing ball and raced over well out from the posts. McCarthy goaied nicely to make the half-time score 20 — 8. GreeriiDg, who was suffering from. the 'flu, was .replaced by Jge Te Ngaio in the pack in the second spell and the Maoris lost no time in increasing their tally. Collecting the ball in the ruck E. Jackson neatly evaded three tack.lefs and dived over next to the posts for S. Jackson to put over his fifth copversion. Further success came when Kurupo made a good break from his own quarter-Way and set a chain of Maoris on the move, Crawford handling last to again score and this time S. Jackson put over his sixth goal. Old Boys had hy no tneans been idle. but they were ineapable of finisliing off their movements in anything like the same manner as the Maoris. They were for from eonqnered however, and for a time the Old Boys put in a great rally in which they were more than passingf sueces, sful. Devine, the Wairarapa fiVe-eighths, who was making his debut in Hawbe's Bay Rugby, paved the way for Ford to battle his way

neatiy his scrum to send Ashman over, also for an unconverted try, making the final count 30 — 14. The scbrers svere:— M-A.C. : 8. Jackson (six conversions), ■ Crawford (three tries),' A. Walford, E. Jackson and Reid (tty each). Hastings H.S.O.B.,: McCarthy (penalty' goal and one conversipn), Palmer, Ford 'and Ashman (try- each).' Mr J. . Geenty was referee.
