Mackenzie but was dropped in lavour of ■ a motion proposed by the president, Mr P- J . U'Kane, and secr ondefl by Mr T, le C. Powdrell, "That fche Mayor be requested to call a public meeting -and that thc authorities in Wairoa, co-operate with those in - Gisborne, Napier and Hastings, in an endeavour to retain the serviee being giveiL by the B stations. The president opened the discussion and said that the question' ef the closing of B stations by the Government was very. iinportant and they should endeavour to keep tlie Iocal station on the air } as the ; serviee that they were payiiig for fx-om the -Goveriim'eiit -was not all that it should be. He referred to tbe wonderi'ui asset that the district had in Station 2ZP, which was giving eiiicient serviee to tlie district and to all parts of New Zealand. The secretary exjfiained that the ofl'er of the Goyernmeut for. the purcliase of the station eovered the plant, but fchere was a certain amount of goudwill tliat it.did not cover} and it was the general opinion that if the station were taken over by the Government, it would be closed down. • . Mr J. H- Curlott suggested that the branch should io-operate with the' Mayor of Hastings in'his endeavour to' retain the B stations. •' • At, this stage Mr Tod proposed his motion. • Mr Powdrell suggested that a hsteners' association be formed lf it would be a help in keeping the local station .on the air. They were not aetting the serviee from the YA stations that they paid for.
