Meeiing of Wairoa Branch

WAIEOA, This Day. The monthly meeting of the "Wairoa branch of the New Zealand •Farmers ' "Union was held at the County Council cbambers on Thursday afternoon. thi*. president, Mr P. J. O'Eane, preaiding. The seeretary said that arrangements had been eompleted for the holding of the inter-pxovineial conference in Wairoa on June 2. - The Clydebank Mangapoiki Settlers' Association wrote objecting to the erection of the proposed 6ft. stock bridge over the Wairoa river, dn eonjpnetion with the railway bridge. The Wairoa County Couneil wrote explaining that suitable races would -be erected at the approaclies to the bridge to enable the stock to be slrrmg out. Thfs met with the members' support. On the motion of tlio president. seconded by Mr G. D. Tod, it was deeided to waive the previous objection of the braneh, and to advise the Clvae bank Mangapoiki Settlers' Association acpordingly. A Iettcr was rcecieed from the Doml-' nion head office regarding tlie proposed . increase in Ihe subscription. — On thc motion of Mr Tod the malter wa3 deferred to next meeting for diseussion. The braueh unanimously supported ihe proposal froxn the Dominion head offiee that Mr W. J. Polson. M.P., be electea a Iifs member. A letter was received from the Prime ^Minister regarding the King George V. Memorial Fund.- -Members, while in sympathy ivith the movement, were of the opinion that a levy should be made On the snbseriptions by the Doininion cxeeutive and .a remit to this pffect is tp be sent f orward. ' The nresident said that there was a ' good deal of confusion regarding the award for farm labour. and after some discussioii it was deeided to write to ihe Deoartment of Labour requesting a otb delinite interpretatiou of the award. Mr Kamlose reported on the membership drive, and said that a lot of ground had been eovered that would yield some good resulte. Mr Powdrell said that he had been . in toueh with Mr J. D. Ormond, Junr., Meat Board representative, and the latter was very willing to visit the East Coast district to give an address to both sheep-farmers and dairyfarmers on raatters Telative to the meat iadustry. The tour would commence from Wairoa and would extend over $he Poverty Bay and Bay of Plenty districts. Mr Ormond 's meeting in ^Kairoa has been tenfatively arranged for 2.30 p.m. oa Thursdaj^ May 2jb
