Scbach. was convinced that once the director had r«ad the story, a particularly interesting psyehological subject, he would be anxious to take tho assignment.' So Schach cabled the 1,500 word synopsis. As he anticipated, almost by r oturu' he received a reply from Lee stating that he was immensely impressed by the story, and tljat he was catching the first aavilable boat. Sehach was iminensely impressed, too, by a bill of £85 from the cable eompany. AII in. all Sehach must have footed a considerable bill for the picture. Franees Marion, reputcd to be the highest paid scenarist in the world, adapted the story from tho play by the late Frank Vosper whieh is based on a short story by Agatha Christie. Ann Harding makes only two or three picttsres a year, but pays income-tax on £75,000. Easil Rathbone, who is featured, is probably the best paid froclance player on the acreen to-day, ,
