(To ihe Editor). • Sir, — 1 read with pieasure and satistaction your leader of - the "21st mstant, and 1 appreciate- your eft'orts ,to furthei- the interests oi the town and district by urging ' upoli ihe Govefnment : ihe- erfectioxi of • a- new faiiway station in Hastings* Toi- many yeafs the necessity of this work lias- been • pointed out by publio bodies and business people, and it was one of the jobs • solieduied- by Mr. (joates in his progressive public works scheme. No doubt the stronger pull of the larger centres, and the shortage qf moiiey during the depresslcil, iiad the eitect of putting this work in the baekgrouud. The present revlvai of business and the expansion of agrieuitural and indus trial activity, call tor the provision of transport facilities in keeping with the growing importance of Hastings* Th© present station is well out of date, and 1 think all thos© having the welfare and progress of Hastings at heart should unito in ufging upon the Government the necessity of carrying oUt, at. an early date, tliis important public work. What is now vvanted is a loug pull, a strong pull. and a pull toeethex-. — Yours, etc.,
