MILK IN SCHOOLS
Hastings Tenders to be Called in Few Days • FINALITY HOPED SOON Tenders for the supply of milk to the children attending the schools in Hastings and the surrounding districts are to be called within the next few days, and it is hoped that by the end of the coming cnonth some llnality will have been reached regarding the free distribution of milk to school children in this district. It will be rocalled that early this month the special committee appointed by representatives of all the schools in the district fully discussed the- contract terms laid down by the Government and . made certaxn representations regarding them, but no reply has been received other than an intimation that though the contract states the period shall be for one ysar. it will not be necessary for the eontractor to be called upon to meet fresh competition every year, but that the terms will be modified, or amicably readjusted, from time to* time if the scheme is satisfactcry. The contract calls for three alternate tenders, the first on the list being. for the supply of pasteurised milk, the second being for milk treated by any other method previously approved, and the third for a supply of milk from T.B.tested herds and cooled by an approved method. It was hoped by the committee that at the same time tenders be called for supplies to any one or all of the schools, but ' as no reply has been received to the request for permission to do this it has been decided in the meantime to call tenders for the supply of milk to all the schools, which embraces Mangateretere, Havelock North and Pakipaki.
