Extra Pay for Monday Work CLOTHING TRADE AWARD
(By Telegraph-
AUCKLAND, Last Night. It bas been ruled by the( Labour Department that clothing manufacturers wio are subject to awards which provide that when Anzac Day falls on a Sunday the following Monday shall be observed as a holiday, and who kept their factories Open on that day must pay their employees double rates of pay under the awards. Failing such payment on the first succeeding pay-day prosecutions will result. One employer who paid the ordinary rates of pay to-day, which was the usual day pay in his factory, proposes to pay his employees an extra day's wages to-morrow-So far the attitude of the employers generaily to the question has not been determined, but it is antieipated that some employers at any rate will meet the department's demand, and pay double rates for Monday at .the weekly pay day, which is to-morrow. There also seems reason to believe that the dispute which arose between Oue firm and its employees as reported yesterday will be settled.
