Christchurch Building TO COST ABOUT £130,000

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Tke tender of Mr. W. Williamson, of Christchurck, kas been aceepted for tke construction of tke. No. 1 block of the new Chief Post Office in tke city. Advice that Cabinet kad approvved the aeceptance of Mr. Wiiliamson's tender was received yesterday by the architeet for tke undertaking, Mr. Cecil Wood. Tke price of tke work is about £130,000, The bloek will face Hereford street. It will stand on tke fairly extensive area running back to and adjoining tke telephone exchange and will also cover tke area wkich tke old Coionial Bank building oceupied. Tke building will be of five stoteys, and - it will be compieted in abont 16 months. Work will be begnn immediately. - Tke Government kas also decided to rebuild the Chief Post Office, but tho construction of tkis building, wkich will be of Seven storeys, will not be commenced until the No, 1 block kas been finished. For two or tkree years, therefore, the Hereford street olock will serve as the Chief Post Office.
