Wind-up Social and Trophies Presented MEMBER FAREWELLED After the final day's play on the Napier Bowling Club's green, the club wound up their season in the evening with a social and "500" card tournaxnent held in the club's pavilion, Nelson Cresent. In the card ioumament the prizes were won by Mrs. Daily and Mrs. Young, ladies' section, and by Messrs. A. W. Pirie and Lydford in the gentlemen 's, The prizes in the various club competitions were presented as follow: — Singles championship. — J. A. Engebretsen 1; runner-up, W. Buckley. Pairs championship. — H. E. Elmes * and J. A. Engebretsen I; runners-up, W. J. Buckley and J. Belcher. Hanilicap pairs. — W. J. Hewson and S. L. Bear 1, S. E. Moore and H. E. Elmes 2. Beecham pairs. — J. Young and J. Willett -, S. Pirie and A. J. Kilpatriek 2. During the evening the president (Mr. J. H. Cooke) referred to'the f&ct that the club was losing a very valuable playing member, Mr. J. Engebretsen, who had earned well merited promotion and was being transferred to Wanganui. He trusted that both he and Mrs. Engebretsen would be delighted in their new abode and he wished them both long life and happiness. Mr Engebretsen 's association with the Napier Club has been a most distinguished one, as he had won every important event, singles championship and pairs championship on two occasions. In the centre's co-mpetition he had also won the championship foura and pairs, besides a number of New Year and Easter tournaments. In the 1935 Dominion tournament he had won the coveted singles championship, winning fourteen games and having no loss-es. He also skipped a team in the rinks, playing well into the finals at Wellington. This season he had also competed, being eliminated in the singles in the fifth round by his club mate, E. V. Thomas, and in the rinks his team was defeated when nearing the finals. During his residence in Gisborne he was successful in winning the Burton Cup, and also skipped the team winning the Hawke's Bay Centre's New Year tournament. Napier 's loss, he said, would be a distinct gain for Wanganui and he wished him every success. Cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. Engebretsen and the happy gathering broke up shortly before midnight, with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
