Ceremonies at Norsewood

NORSEWOOD, Last Night. The Anzac parade- and seryice at Norsewood on Sunday was well attended, despite the wintry weather conditions. In the early hours of the morning heavy snow fell, and the prospeets tor the ceremonies in the morning were far from encouragmg, but later the sun broke through and at 10-30 o'clock the morning was quite bright. As in previous years when the Norsewood and District R.S.A. took over the Anzac service arrangements, the parade formed up at the rear of the school in the following oi'der: Dannevirke Salvation Army Band under Bandmaster Geard, Returned Soldiers, South African Veterans, guard of honour, buglers from the Dannevirke High School under Major E. N, Hogben and Lieutenant J. G- Britland, the former principal of the High School, and local children. :Mr W. Te Tau, president of the Norsewood R.S.A*. was marshal of the parade, which marched to- the ground. where. the Cenotaph is erected ta the memory of Trooper Beck, who fell in the South Afncan War. The guard of hohour took up their positions and ex-Sergeant E. Willis placed a wreath at the base of the OenotaphThis was' followed by a prayer by Capt. Spillet, of the Dannevirke Salvation Army. ' . The parade then marched, to» the playing _ of the band, to tiie soldiers' memonal ground, where it. took up its various positions and the guard of honour marched to " the four corners of ihe Cenotaph and stood throughout the service with arrns reversed. The service opened with the singing of the . hymn, "Our' .Gpd," Uur Help in . Ages Phst/' follow'eci by * ex-Trooper A. NicHolsbn placihg on" behalf of the R.S. A— Norsewood ' and district — a beautiful wreath at the bas'e" of the Cenotaph. Wreaths : from the ' school, and alSo iroin relatives of the f allen ' were :also' placed at .the base. ..The Rev. S. B. Corbin, of bfmondville, led in prayer, and read an appfopriate lesson from the-Book of Rovelations. The hymn,- "Onwafd ' Christiaii Soldiers," was then sung^ and was followed by Major E. N. Hogben delivering a verj' inspiring. address- '
