FINE SWEDE CROP
Proyes Productivity of Waihau Land EXCELLENT YIELD The suitability of the light eountry at Waihau for the growing of swedes is demonstrated by an excellent crop on Mr. John Walker 's property. This crop of 22 acres will provide splendid feeding for sheep for a considerable period. The swedes are partieularly fine specimens of the Elephant variety, being of an unusually large size. Becently Mr. Walker brought into Dalgety & Co.'s store at Hastings, a very fine sample, perfectly shaped, being 13Hbs. in weight. Mr. Walker informed a HeraldTribnne representative that there were hundreds oi swedes as large as this one in the crop, He had not given the crop any speeial attention, the only manure used being a bag of turnip fertiliser to the acre. The yield per acre will be very considerable, and reflects the wonderful possibilities of the soil in the discrict. Boot crops of this yield and quality will prove a great factor in increasing the carrying capacity of many of the farms at Waihau.
