Mr and Mrs G, H. Dick and family have returned to Waipawa after speqdmg a holiday in Taranaki, Dr. Alexander Gillies, Wellington, who has bepn on a visit to England, is due back by the Awatea to-day. Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, of Hastings, visited Whangarei to take part dn the Anzac Day commemoration. The Rev. and Mrs S. B. R. Oorbin, Ormondville, haye returned from Wellington, where they have been visiting Miss A, M. Webb in hospital. During the week-end members of the Waipawa Municipal Band took the opportunity of presenting to Mr e. Maher, who is now residing in Feilding, a small token of appreciation of his services as a member of the bond. Dr. J. R. Elder, professor of history at th© University of Qtago, has accepted appointment as a member of the National Historical Association, fornp ed in conneetion with' the centenary of the Dominion. The Hon. W, E, Barnard, Speaker ot the House of Representatives, was a week-end visitor to Christchurch where he delivered an address at the citizens' gathering in Christchurch on Anzac Day.
Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., left Hastings this morning by the mail train for Wellington, where he wull attend the national conference of the Five Millions Club as the delegate of the Hastings branch of that Qrganisatipn. Captain R. Harrison, commander of the Strathmore, has been appointed P. apd O. Commodore in succession to Captain J. B. Browning, commander of the , Maloja, who is retiring, states a London cable Mr Baron de Oastro, of the Vaeuum Oil Co., Ltd., has received notification of his transfer to the Marlborough district, with headquarters at Blenheim, Mr and Mrs de Cnetr- wtll leav© Hastings in about a for t night, His successor will be Mr R. II. Clouston, of Dannevirke, who, with Mrs Clouston, wi}| soon take up their r sidence in Hasttings. Mr J, 1. Oraig, secretary to the Egyptian Minister of Finance, js to visit Australia and New Zealand in a few weeks' time. Mr Graig, who is to delivqr addresses on Egypt, wilj spend almost the whole of June and July in Australia, and will visit the chief centres of New Zealand in Augiist. He wilj prpbably speak in Wellington under th.e auspices of the English-Speak-ing Union.
