DUNEDIN, Last Night. The acute shortage of oranges resulted yesterday and to-day in prices for oranges soaring to unexpected heights, and the prices realised on the local market are believed to constitute a record 'for Dunedin. For 25 ca?es of oranges, ex the Monterey, which were sold on the local market yesterday afternoon, the highx price of 80s was obtained for each case of 176 oranges, bidding being very keen throughout. Another consignment of 25 cases was submitted to auction hliis morning, and for 176 's as high as 81s was obtained. For cases containing 388 oranges. £4 7s 6d was obtained locally this morning, and cases of 200 's to 252 ;s brought from £4 to £4 5s. • The oranges are retailing at an exorbitant price, working out at just untiS? 6d each for oranges of 176 to the cse.
