LABOURERS' UNIONS
Ballot To Be Taken In Hawke's Bay SETTUNG THE DISPUTE In connection with the dispute betwen the Wellington and Hawke's Bay Labour nnions over the question of whether certain workers residing in Hawke's Bay should be members of the Wellington Union or the Hawke's Bay Union, Mr. O. Jennings, in a'n interview with the Herald-Tribune this morning, stated thiat the dispute was placed before the General Labourers' Federation in Wellington last week, when a decision was arrived -at that the democratic way of settling the dispute between the two nnions was to take a ballot throughout Hawke's Bay and thereby allow the rank and file to decide which union they preferred to belong t'o. "In the event of the ballot going in favour of Hawke's Bay," said Mr. Jennings, "the Wellington Union immediately withdraws all objections to the amended rules of the Hawke's Bay Union, and also hands over the ad- j ministration of all awards at present administered by the Wellington Union, which, in effect, means that the Hawke's Bay Union would have complete jurisdiction over the provincial area. On the other hand, if the ballot goes in favour of Wellington, the result will be the ultimate deregistration of the Hawke's Bay Union."
