NEW RULES Observations for Guidance of Players C0RRECT G0AL-KICK

(By

Amendments to the rules of tho Football Assoclation for the coming season include a rule whereby it is impossible for the goal-keeper to take the ball from a goal kick by anpther player, and thereaf ter kick it into play. A decision o.f the International Board, on June 13, 1936, states that the ball must be kicked from the goal area directly into play, and that if the ball is not "kicked beyond the penalty area, the kick shall be retaken. Following are other amendments and observations of tbe rules for the guidance of players:— ' Correct Goal-Mck. — The following must be added to the explanation given in the Football Referee, August, 1932: (g) The ball must be kicked directly into field of play beyond penalty area. (1) This makes it illegal for a goalkeeper to receive the ball into his hands from a goal-kick, and ends the constant annoyance of son*3 player in his endeavour to . tackle the goalkeeper encroaching within ten yards before it is played. Should the ball not be kicked direct into play beyond the penalty-area the kiek shall be retaken. (2) It sometimes happens that the kicker kicks and an opponent (in the past) has taken advantage of the error i

to even score a goal for his side. The new law clearly debats such an occurrence from now on, for the ruling is quite definite. Although the words "the kiek shall be re-taken direct into play," form part of the ruling, it is fair to presume that a long kick finding touch, as it were, from goal-kick. is no infringement of the law. It will still be possible for a goalkeeper to receive the ball into his hands from a free-kiek — not n goalkick — in the penalty area. Repdacement Law. The New Zealand Association has ruled that replacements may be. made up to and including the commeneement 1 of sccond-haif.
