Royal Society Cup to Hutt Grower VERY HIGH HONOUR

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Mr H. J. Poole, a well-known horfciculturist of Lower Hutt, has received a cablegram from the Royal Hoxticulbural Society announcing the award of the Peter Barr MemoHaJ Cup for work on behalf of da'ft'odil culture. The award is a great houour, flot °nly to Mr Poole but tp New Zealand* this being the first time sinee it was first awarded in 1912 that it has gone outside the Hnited Kingdomi Mr Barr was the first person to take up seriously the eultur© of the daifodil in New Zealand. He visited New Zealand in 1880, and it was owing to his enthusiasm that the first daffodiJ society was formed in New Zealand in 1899. Mr Pool has received other eahlegrams from people in Londoa congratulating him. He also has been cdngratulated by many friends at the Lower Hutt autumn show.
