Preparing to Meet the Springboks SELECTION METH0DS

WELLINGTON) This Day. Breaking new ground, the IjOw Zealand Kugby Union has decid • t to make a change in the method of selecting the New Zealand team to meet the South • Afriean team in the Test matches. Instead of following the custom employed jn past years. of holding trial matches in different centres, the New Zealand Union this year will assemble a number of selected players in Wellington, and play a series of trial matches, ineluding the inter-Island contest, from July 10 to July 17. The following trial matehes have .been decided upon: — Saturday, July 10.— Nofth Island v. South Island, and a trial mateh. Monday, July 12.- — Trial matehes. Wednesday, July 14.- — Trial matches. Sa-turday, July 17. — Trial matches. In the case of the last trials, a probable New Zealand team will meet the next fifteen. 'The other match on the same day will be between teams ehosen from the balance of the players in the preceding trials. Frovisional nominations aTe to be ih the hands of the New Zealand Bugby Union by June 7, and any additional nominations hy June 30, separate nominations to be made "for the NorthSouth match and for the trials. The North Island selectors will chopse the North team and the South Island selectors the South team. The combined selectors are to choose the ti'iaJ and New Zealand teams. Selectors are to have other games as direeted by the management committee, and the usual interprovincial matehes, whieh have been played On June 3 in recent yeafs, are to he played on June 9.
