UNREHEARSED INCIDENT
Racecourse Tractor Amok Not the least thrilling incident of the very interesting day's racing at Whangarei last Friday came after the last event. Tlieu the club's tractor, used for pulling the harrows or light roller as required between events to smooth out the track, was brought into the birdcage and when being steered towards the opening it suddenly accelerated and crashed through the fence, knocking over two spectators, jockey H. Turvey and another young man, the former having a foot crushed. Occupants of the members' stand had a real grandstand view of this mishap (which might have been much mor serious) while they were waiting for the dividends to be put up for the last race. One does sometimes see racehorses run amok or take charge of diminutive riders, but this is probably the first oecasion they have been treated to the speetable of a tractor taking charge of proceedings at a racecourse.
