HASTINGS SUB-ASSOCIATION

'Annual Meeting Held There was a full attemlance of club delegates to the annual meeting of tlie Hastings Hockey Sub-Association held last week. Mr. A. Mahoney presided. The annual report, which was adopted witkout discussion, stated that the playing season officially opened on May 7 with six teams from the sub-associa-tion in tho senior mid-week competition and four juniors. These competitions being run under tho jurisdiction of the Hawke's Bay Association. Throughout tho season championship games were played in an excellent spirit and on nearly every occasion were yery keenly contested. Players conducted themselves on and off tho field in a manner which reflected great crcdit to the game. A very pleasing feature of the senior competition was the numbor of promotod juniors who gave cxceptionally good exhibitions. During ihe season two challenges for tho Nordon Cup were successfully defended. Two others from Feilding and Wanganui were not played owing to dates being unavoidably unsuitable through Rugby representative matches on Nelson Park. After suceesjfLully defending the Kaiapoi Cup Mr some seasous the Napier sub-associatioh representative team were successful in lifting this trophy. During tlib season two junior representative matches were played between this sub-assoeiation and Napier subassociation resulting in a win for each. The class and standard of play in representative matches of both grades

was of a very high order and reflected great credit o:r selectors and coacbes. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted: — Patron, Mr. G. A. Maddison; president, Mr. R. E. Hunt; vice-presidents, Messrs, L. J. Harvey, W. Burfield, L. Sowman, H. B. Poppelwell, J. E. Sutcliffe, G. Luttrell, Jolm Ohambors, Donald Campbell and H. R. Freneh; hon. secretary, Mr. S. J". Bouse; hon. treasurer, Mr.- M. Luttrell; delegates to H.B. association, Messrs. W. Parkhill and D. Colsins; hon. auditor, Alr. I, Snaddon. Regardiug the opening of the season, it whs decided that the opening tournament be held on Thursday, April 22, for which post entries would be received. The weekly competition matches are to begin on April 29. Nominatiops for this will close on Monday, April 26.
