MR. E. E, ELPHICK FOR MANAWATU
Popular and Efficient Veterinary Officer SERVICE IN H.B. Mr E. E. Elphick, M.R.ClV.S., D.Y.H., who has been District Veterinary officer in Hawke's Bay for the past eleven years, has received advice of his tranefer to the. Manawatu distrist, He will take ,up his position at Palmerston North in May. Mr Elphick, who is a well-known figure in agricultural circles in Hawke 's Bay, came to Hastings from Wellington, where he was district veterinarian until 1926. In carrying out his duties, Mr Elphick has always been a courteous and capable officer, and his departure will be a eource of deep regret to the majority of farmers in the district. All all times he placed • himself at the disposal of the farming eoinmunity, and his advice and assistance have been readily for^hcoming. Mr Elphick has been a keen supporter of both Rugby football and cricket, and is a past-president of the Hastings Cricket Sub-Association and is also a vice-president of ' the Hastings High School Old Boys' Football Club. Youth movements, notably the Y.M.C.A. and the Boy Scouts, have also had active support from Mr Elphick, and he was a member of the executive committee of the f ormer assocjaition, and, prior to 1931 he was chairman -of the - Hastings Scout Committee.' He was 'also the honorary vetferinarian to the Hawke's Bay Kennel Club. As supervising in8pector of the f reezing- works in this province, Mr Elphick has seen a big .increase in the killings at these woTks, ahd has always"' worked in harmony with the officials of the various companies concerned. • His work in connection with sheep mortality from liver fluke and black disease has been • very valuable to the sheepfarmers of the pXovince,' and, by following out Mr Elphick 's recommendations, farmers have been able to feduce suhstantially their losses from these diseases. Mr Elphick has ; delivered lectures under the. auspices of the Farmers' Union and' other organisations throughout the province, and these have always been much appreciated by the farming commupity. He has ailso had the task of instructing' the cadet's at the Smedley Estate.in veterinary; subjects. _ All the licensed dairies in the district, producing milk and cream for human consumption, have been under the direct supervigion of Mr Elphick, and hia efforts in this direction have ensured for the public- a supply of wholesome milk, . produced under hygienic conditions. '
