Official Opening Arrangements

WAIPAWA, Last Night. Th© Waipawa Golf Club will hold its official opening during the Week-end when six temporary greens laid down owing to the lack of rain keeping the proper greens back, will be used. Play will ccntinue on these greens until a good rainfall arrives. Two new holes have been made following the present No 2. No 3, named "Sabara" is 470 yards, and is the longest hole on the course. This hole should enable the long hitters to do their stuff to make this hole a twoshotter. No 4 has been named "Waiwhenua" and is 397 yards, a comfortable two-shotter for most members. "Wheelers" is next in rotation. The new holes are played on the first round only and this makes the 18th hole round finish at the "Pavilion." Visitors from neighbouring clubs hav© advised that they will be present on opening day. Another ; substantial addition - has been made to the membership this season,. and over twenty applieations for membership haye been received. • ,The club's first match of the season will be achallenge for -the Coronation Cup to be played at Maraenui .on May 9. Twelve players are required for the .team, the minimum handicap to be 12. Maraenui have also invited six ladies of th© club to play a friendly match against their ladies on the same day. Players with handicaps between 12 and 20 will need to get down to solid practise of they are to have the honour of representing the club in the first challenge for the cup. Play on opening day will commence at 1.15, with a mixed Canadian foursome and players are requested to arrange their own partners if possible. - L
