Scbool Devotional Services. The Ormondville Sehool Confmittee decided at ita last meeting to allow ehort devotional services, strictly undenominational, at the opening of school for about five minutes each morning. An undenominational Bible class l>as also been started at Makotuku by Miss Gaze, assistant fceaeher. The first meeting was well attended. Classes will be held weekly for young people from 14 to 18 years of age. Makotuku W.C.T.U. The monthly meeting of the Makotuku Women 's Christian Temperance TJnion was held at Mrs Walter Mildon's home. Mrs Dalby, • president, was in the chair. There was a fair attendance. A paper was read by Mrs Dalby. Makotuku Old Pupils. ' The Makotuku Old Pupils7 Association held its first mteeting for the year, which was well attended. Mr C. Hanxmond was in the chair. Officers wcre elected as follow: Chairman, Mr C. Hammondj hon. sec., Mr M. Berkahn; joint trustees, Messrs J. Andrew and M. Berkahn. An entertainment committee consisting of the Misses B. Wilton and Joy Palmer, Messrs Clarence, S. M. and Christ Berkahn (junr.), G. Fothergill, John Fitzgerald and C. Hammond, was appointed. The member 7s fee was fixed at 1/- per annum. Ormondville ScbooL The monthly meeting of the Ormondville School Committee - was presided ov'er by, Mr H. J. Newling., " Mr Smal;Jey, headipaster, r.epor,ted the rpll number as 48, with an average attendance of 46. A new shelter shed has been erected. Wairoa Faimers' Succees. , A good record has been established by a settler on the Waikaremoana road, which speaks well for the grazing capacity of Wairoa lancfs. It is ,reported that 39 wethers (all Bomney gross) clipped 290 lbs. of wool, the bale realising £22 12/6 at the Napier sale. Ono fleece yielded 12 lbs. of. wool, bringing in the sum of £1 0/3. Mahia Camping Ground. Tbe Wairoa County Council has given authority to tbe acting-engineer to carry out improvements at tbe Oraka camping reServe, Mahia, .to the value of about £40. . These .improvements will. include water supply, feixcing, road improvements and drainage. Wairoa Paraflysis Cases. No further cases of infantile paralysis have- been reported in the Wairoa district, and the thxee patients in the Wairoa hospital are continuing to make good prog.ess. During the last few dayfs the attendances at the local schoolshave been rising. ... . Wairoa Men's Ciub. The first meeting* of the newly-f ormed men's club was held in St. Paul's parish hall on Thursday night, over 50 being present. Games -filled up most of the evening and, *at suitable intervals, items were given by Mr E. A. Perry, who crganised a community sing, and by Mr Wkitten, who told humorous stories. Mr L. Manning gave a recitation, and the Kev. C. Hyde followed with a 15 minutes talk on his impressions of . London. Valedictory — Mrs Theo. Brown. Mrs Theo. Brown, Wairoa, who leaves with her husband shortly for Blenheim, was f arewelled at St. Paul 's vicarage on Wednesday evening. . A pleasant time was spent in games, competitions and community tsinging. Supper was haUded round by the ladies. Th© vicar, the Kev. C. Hyde, presented Mrs Brown with a beautifully-bound hymnbook, paying a tribute to her, for the excellent work she had • done for the ehurch, Mr 6. C. Fletcher endorsing these remarks. Mrs Brown made a suitable reply. Mr and Mrs Brown are staying with Mr and Mrs S." M. Ashburn, Wairoa., until tbeir departure for Blenheim. Mr Bf&wn is to be farewellcd this afternoon at the bowling green, Dressmaking and Woodwork Lesson. The annual general meeting of the Waipawa Technical Association was held last evening, Mr G. Hunt being in the chair. The Education Board intimated that the department wais prepared to aceept an application for recognition of classes in dressmaking and woodwork, provided it could b'e shown that. there would be an average •attendance of eight. Application for recognition is to be made, and if permission. is given, the classes will begin at once A circnlar letter is to be forwarded to all intending members of the classes adviising of |the position. Obituary. Mrs Jane Wilson, widow of tlie late William Henry Wilson (schoolmaster) and mother of Mrs W. Malerioir, of Otane, died at Otane on Thursday at the age of 91 years. The late .Mrs Wilson was an old identity of the Otane district, and her passing, which will be regretted by a wide circle of friends, will sever yet another link with tho early history of the district. The interment took place at the Parke Jsland Ceinetery to-day. Coaveyaajce of OMidrea. No tenders were received by the Education Board for the coaveyauce of children in the Springhill district to the Ongaonga School, and it was decided at yesterday's meeting that another effort be made to secure a suitable tender. Dog Trials. The committee of the Wairoa County Collie Club has applied. for May 4 .and three following days for the postponed ilog trials, or alternatively the 17th and three days following. Messrs. D. Glynan aiul T. Lanibert were appointed to select the judge. Two donors presented a silver eup to be eulled the Wairoa County Collie Club's Cliallenge Cup, for conipetition at the Uentre Chainpionships, Class I. Messrs. W. J, Hill and A.
