Workingmen's Deputation The Public Work# Department 's recefit decisiofi . to prohibit duck and swan shooting on the Ahuriri Lagoon arfefi of 7560 acres was discussed this morning, When a deputation of sportsmten, led by the Hofi. W. E. Barnard, M.P., waited upon the prfesidfent and secretary of the Hawke's Bay AccliinatiSation Society, Messrs.cJ. H, Edmundson and R. M. Ghadwick respectively. Tlie deputation asked the society whether it could persuade the Public Works Depaftmfent to allow shdoting en the lagoon at least on the first Saturday and Sundfiy of the shooting sea* son, Which opfens on May 1. Mr. Ed* mun'dson promised to take up the mat* ter with the district Public Works Engineer, Mr. A. Binnie. The department decided to prohibit shooting on the Lagoon because of the dfinger of workmeu on the drainage scheme bfiing injured. Many sportsmen who are workingmen cannot afterd to go far from Napier to shoot, and that is Why they want pennission to shoot on the lagoon on Saturdays and Sundays, when no work is being done there.
