Auckland Cost Probably £200,000 a Year EXPERTS ESTIMATE

AUCKLAND, April 16, "The annual cost of feeding rats is tremendous and is estimated to average between a halfpenny and a penny a day, or 15/- -to £1 a year, costing a city like Auckland somewhere about £260,000 a year," stated - Mr. C. F. Paull, district sanitary inspector for the Auckland City Council, in a paper on "Food Premises and Rat Oontrol" read this afternoon at the conference of the New .Zealand . branch of the Royal'.Sanitary Institute Mr. Paull pointed out that to this had to be added the enormous damage done to property. and merchandise such as the cauging .of fires by rats.gnawing cables, and said there could be 800 progeny from oue pair of ratia.
