BON VOYAGE PARTY FOR MISS MARY PALMER
Earlier in the month the members of the Maraetotara-WaimaTama Women 's Institute met at Mrs. A. ' D. 'Gillies' home, Maraetotara, to bid farewell to Miss Mary Palmer, who left by the Wanganella for England. The afternoon began most hilariously with everyone trying to eat an eggcupful of jelly with a knitting needle, by no means an easy cask. Miss Palmer very appropriately won this and was presented with a small prizo. After this four members, Mesdameg Mason, Steenson, Bobson and Stowart performed a most ainusing three act charade, the acting and by-play of the performers being most amusing and vory well done and giving the audience considerable brain-work guessing the word.' Afternoon. tea was then ' served by the cojnmittee after which Mrs. ElJidtt, the president, on behalf of the members wished Miss Palmer bon voyage and a happy sojourn in England, saying how she would be missed in fhe Institute as she had always been sueh a keen and hard-working member. She then presented Miss Palmer with a leather writing-case as a token of the members' afl?ection. Mrs. Biggir then spoke a few words on behalf cf the executive of the Northern Hawke's Bay Eederation of which Miss Palmer was a member and iater Miss Palmer suitably responde,d. . The first charade was such a success that the four members mentioued bofore were asked to do another one. j This was performed in the same able manner as the previous one and cailed ; forth much laughter and applause. A very jolly afternoon closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
