VOCAL EVENING HELD BY BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY AT WAIPUKURAU
On Thursday evening th.e members of the vocal group of the Central Hawke'g Bay branch of the British Music Society were the guests of Mr and Mrs P. A. Biddle, Hatuma. This much-enjoyed musical "evening, confined to the vocal works of Elgar, Brahms and Schumann, tru the ftrst for the 1937 Season and' the great interest tvhich -was shown ftugers well for the success, of the evening season. l)uring the evening Mrs J. L. Braithwaite gaye an intere'sting talk on tlie liyes of the composers, Schumann and. Brahms. The following numbers were eontributed: "Pleading" (Elgar), Mrs Gerald Wilson; "The Sheplerd's Song" (Schumann), Mrs G. E. Dowrick; "Song of the Nigh.tingale" (Schumann), and "Lullaby" (Brahms), Mrs "W. J. Gray; "I Murmer Not" (Schumann), Mr E. T. Haldane; "The Flowers 'all are Slceping7' (Brahms), Miss J. Edgar; "Sapphic Ode" (Brahms), Mrs J. L- Braifhwaite; "Red and White the Poses" (Brahms) o.nd "The Almond Tree" (Schumann), Mrs H. E. Coats; "Two Grenadiers" (Schumann) and "Wanderers" (Brahms), Mr E. G. Collin; "Love Thoughts,, (Schumann), • Mrs P. A. Biddle. At the conclusion of the programme a dainty supper was "served and, bofore leaving for home, the' membera fhani-.ed Mr and Mrs Biddle for the delightful musical evening.
