PIPE BAND UNIFORMS
Funds lor Napier Scots F.aised The Port Caledonian Society held a special ingleside in tthe Buffalo Hall, Port Ahuriri, last' .eveniug, for tho purpose of augmenting tho fuud to pro- i vide uniforms for the recently formed j pipe baud. There was a partieularly laTge attendance, additioual seating accommodation having to be requisitioned to proyide for all those attending, who included a number of visitors from Waikari (Canterbury), Nelson, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Gisborne aud Dannevirke, as well as many from Hawke's Bay country distriets. The i treasurer of the band was able to an- j nounce that with the proceeds of the ingleside, aided by private donations the uniforms when they arrived would be quite free of debt, and the band desired to thank all who had in .any way aesisted to this end. In welcoming the visitors, Chief J. McConnell, who presided, expressed the hope that they would thoroughly enjoy themselves and take away with them pleasant recollections of the evening spent at the Port Caledonian ingleside. A very fme musieal programme had been arranged by Signor Truda, the items being: Mandoline ensemble, Miss ; F. Martin and Masters II. Martin, T. i Stokes and J. Paxie; vocal solos,-"Pri- j mavera" and "Bird Songs at Eventide, ' ' Miss Jean Bowmau; steel guitar ' duo, "Lila Valse," Miss McNab and Mr Biswell;; vocal solo, "For You A.lone, ' ' Mr C. Corradetti; violin duo, Masters J. Paxie and G. Barna0- • TLe dance items by Miss Zeta Spinks's pupils were all greatly- appreciated. Tho dances were: Irish jig, Miss Joan Sutherland, and Highland fling, Miss Maude Hunt (Mrs Sutherland playing the accompUniments), Highland fling, Misses Doreen Hill, Bernice Carswell, Joyee Scott and iDoreen Hannigau; hornpipe, Misses Doreen Hannigan and Bernice Carswell; sword danee, Miss Doreen Hill; Irish jig, solo, Miss Colleen Grainey; duo, Misses Joyce Scott and Dbreen • Hill; shean truibhas, Misses Bernice Carswell and Doreen Hannigan. Piper Lawson piped for the majority of these dance events. The usual popular programme of oldtime and Scottish dancing made up a. very full evening 's enjoyment, Mr and Mrs Berry supplying the music for these daneos, while Mr W. J. Key made a very effieient M.C. A light supper was served, ' ' Auld Lang Syne" wiuding up a very pleasant evening.
