Progress of Metalling Contract Three aud a-half miles of maia highWay between Waiohiki and Pakowhai are to .be metalied by the middle of July. A contract for the job has been signed by Mr L. Bunn, of. Waitiara, who has already arrived in this district. Bec'ause a crnsher he has ordered is not yet to hand, he will not be able to begin the actuai metalling for about a fortnight, but in the meantime he will atart.with the quarrying, in anticxpation of the arrival of his gear. This sfretch of roadway is included in the hitumen-sealkig programme of the Hawke's Bay County Council, which is to nndertake the metalling and sealing of some 16 miles of highway at an estimated cost of from £16,000 to £20.000. When Mr Bunn has finished the metalling of the Waiohiki-Pakowhai section, the council will proceed to call tenders for the- bitumen-sealing of the surface. It is hoped to do this work xert summer.
