Wi!^ijliNUTUJN7 Ua is Day. The Government has decided to appoint JVIi' J ■ W. Mawson to the newlycreated position of Town Planning Ufficer. In making the announcemeaxt, the Hon. W. E. Parry said it had been tesolved not to appoint a director under the Town Planning Act of 1926. It was felt that better work could be done and more progress mad© towards secunng tru© fulfilment of town planning principles if the .officer appointed had the whole weight of the departmental organisation behind him than by his acting in an independent capacity. Mr Mawson was formerly Director of Town Planning, but resigned the position. He was chiefly responsible foi planning the Marewa area in Napier.
