TINTS AND TINSELS

■piBBONS are eternally popular, probably because |hey give a toiich of dainty femininity, in pleasant contrast Jto the man-tailored modes which are enjoying a vogue. Quite the newest ribbons are those in gold, silver, or steel thread, admirable for belts. Tliey are especially effeetive if jewelled to harmonise with the colour of the gown. Smart belts, also, are those of wide taffeta ribbon,, and very jaunty are the checked varieties. One can make excellent collar and cuff sets, too, of blistered '•loque, o'r Roman-striped ribbons. For evening wear, brocades are still very much in vogue, and are suitable for the small pochette, or uneommon bag. For masquerade, the ties for the shoes of a fairy, for instance, tinse) comes to the fore, and how attractive it can appear when arranged with a discerning eye among the decorations for a young people's party. Very often the tinsel ribbon is modified and a dull surface alternates with glittering threads. Then it hecomes interesting from the milliner's point of view, and appears in the guise of a cocktail hat with distinction. For hat banda, spotted ribbons are charming, and so are the new plain • cire ribbons. Spots are combined also with the finest of check markings, usually black on a pastel ground, and dots, too, are embroidered in silk m metal thread on more elaborate ribbons.
