Natives of Northern Rhodesia, Africa, wear clothing made from the ins er bark of trees. Stripped from a tree and soaked in water, the white bark turns a reddish" brown colour, and is ■oft snd pulpy. It is tapped gently
with a blunt instrument and then twisted like toffee to stretch it to four times irs original area. After an oi] bath, the bark is dried in the sun and worn as a cloak. The bark cloth is said to be as soft as^a fhiffy wool blankct, and to be exceptionally strong and durable.
